Cyrus K. Manavi, MD

Dr. Manavi is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty board certification in hematology. His areas of subspecialty interest are hematopathology and surgical pathology.

Dr. Manavi received his MD degree in 2006 from The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina and subsequently completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Wake Forest University/North Carolina Baptist Hospital (currently Wake Forest Baptist Health), Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Manavi served for one year as junior faculty/instructor in general surgical pathology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in the Department of Pathology. He subsequently completed a fellowship in hematopathology and general surgical pathology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Prior to joining ECP, Dr. Manavi has been member of the pathology staff at Molecular Pathology Laboratory Network, Inc., a Tennessee- based regional clinical reference laboratory, specializing in oncology and women's health diagnostic testing services.

Dr. Manavi is a fellow in the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP). He also holds a medical technology certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology, MT(ASCP).

Dr. Manavi currently also serves as staff pathologist at Wilson Medical Center, Wilson, NC.

Cristina Smith McLaughlin, MD

Dr. McLaughlin is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty board certification in hematology.

After earning a BA in history from Reed College, Dr. McLaughlin received her MD degree in 2004 from the Oregon Health & Sciences University School of Medicine in Portland, OR, where she also completed her pathology residency and served as Co-Chief Resident. Dr. McLaughlin completed a surgical pathology fellowship at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN; and then returned to Oregon to complete a fellowship in hematopathology at the Oregon Health & Sciences University School of Medicine.

Dr. McLaughlin has been involved in several research projects, publications and presentations in pathology. She has also been the recipient of a number of honors and rewards, including American Society of Hematology Scholar, the Alma B. Sneeden Pathology Award, and Collegiate All-American in Women's Rugby while attending Reed College.

Dr. McLaughlin is a member of several professional societies including the College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), and the American Society of Cytopathologists. She has also served as CAP junior inspector.

Dr. McLaughlin is staff pathologist at several Denver area hospitals including Littleton, Parker and Porter Adventist Hospitals, as well as Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital P/SL), where she is part of the medical team that supports P/SL's bone marrow transplant center.

Steve Nguyen, MD

After earning a BS in genetics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Dr. Nguyen received his MD degree in 2008 from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health, Madison, WI.

Dr. Nguyen completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY.

Dr. Nguyen is a member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

George Drennan Smith, MD

Dr. Smith is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as subspecialty boarded in cytopathology and hematology.

After earning a BA degree from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Smith earned his MD degree in 2009 from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University where he also served as Chief Resident. Following his residency, Dr. Smith completed two fellowships, in cytopathology and hematopathology, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Gang Xu, MD, PhD

Dr. Xu is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty board certification in hematology.

Dr. Xu earned his medical degree in 1993 from Beijing Medical University in China, and subsequently a PhD in pathology in 2000 from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. He went on to complete his pathology residency at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, IL where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Xu completed a fellowship in hematopathology at the Oregon Health & Sciences University School of Medicine.

In addition to participating in an extensive list of research projects, Dr. Xu has presented his publications and abstracts at conferences across the world including the International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma in Lugano, Switzerland in 2015 and the International Hematologic Malignancies Conference in Guangzhou, China in 2016.

Tao Zhang, MD, PhD

Dr. Zhang is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty board certification in cytopathology. Dr. Zhang also has special interest in surgical pathology and gastrointestinal pathology.

Dr. Zhang earned an MD degree in 1985 from Zhejiang Medical University, Hangzhou, China. He then went on to complete a PhD in peptide biochemistry from the University of Shizuoka, Shizuoka, Japan.

Dr. Zhang held several instructor positions at the Department of Surgery of the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX. He complete a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital of the Washington University Medical Center, St. Louis, MO. Following his residency, Dr. Zhang completed a fellowship in hematopathology at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, IN.

Dr. Zhang is member of the pathology medical staff at Good Samaritan Medical Center and St. Mary's Medical Center, West Palm Beach, Florida, where he is also member of the Institutional Review Board.

Rui Zheng, MD, PhD

Dr. Zheng is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty board certification in hematology. Her primary areas of interest are hematopathology and surgical pathology. Dr. Zheng is based at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital, Denver, Colorado.

Dr. Zheng received an MD degree in 1993 and a PhD degree in 1999 from Beijing Medical University (currently Peking University Health Science Center) in Beijing, China. She then served as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow and subsequently as a Research Associate at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center of The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD.

Dr. Zheng completed her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD. She then completed a fellowship in hematopathology also at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine with Michael J. Borowitz, MD, Professor and Director of Division of Hematopathology.

Dr. Zheng has received multiple honors and awards both in China and while at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and has been involved in numerous research projects. Dr. Zheng is a member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP).
