David Abis, MD

Dr. Abis is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty board certification in cytopathology. Dr. Abis' areas of special interest include women's health, urologic pathology and gastrointestinal pathology.

After receiving a BS degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, Dr. Abis earned an MD degree in 1985 from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, New York, NY. Dr. Abis completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of California at San Francisco.

Dr. Abis currently serves as President of Palm Beach Pathology, PA and as staff pathologist at St. Mary's Medical Center and Good Samaritan Medical Center, West Palm Beach, FL. At St. Mary's Medical Center, Dr. Abis serves as Director of Pathology, as well as member of several committees, including Medical Staff Executive Committee, Surgical Quality Assurance Committee, and Trauma Quality Management Committee.

James B. Cash, MD

Dr. Cash is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty board certification in cytopathology. He is also board-certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Cash's areas of interest include surgical pathology, women's health, GI pathology and urologic pathology. Dr. Cash, a co-founder and current President of Eastern Carolina Pathology, PA.

After earning a B.A. degree, cum laude, from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, Dr. Cash earned an MD degree in 1977 from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Lexington, Kentucky, where he also completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology. Following his residency, Dr. Cash completed a fellowship in surgical pathology at Barnes Hospital, Washington University Medical Center, St. Louis, MO. He then returned to the University of Kentucky Medical School as Chief Resident and Instructor in Pathology, and later as Assistant Professor of Pathology.

Dr. Cash is active in a number of professional organizations, including College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), North Carolina Pathology Society, and the Wilson County Medical Society.

Dr. Cash currently also serves as Laboratory Medical Director of the Heritage Hospital, Tarboro, NC.

Dr. Olivere is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with an additional subspecialty board certification in dermatopathology. Dr. Olivere also serves as President of UniPath PC.

After earning a BS degree in zoology from the University of Florida, Dr. Olivere earned his MD degree in 1994 from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis, TN. He then completed a clinical internship at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, TX, followed by his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology in the combined Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) and BAMC program in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Olivere served as Chief of Anatomic Pathology and Medical Director of Microbiology Outpatient Clinic Laboratories at Darnall Army Community Hospital in Fort Hood, TX from 1999 to 2003. Dr. Olivere completed a fellowship in dermatopathology at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore, MD.

Dr. Olivere is actively involved in the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the American Society of Dermatopathology. Dr. Olivere has received multiple awards and has authored numerous research articles and publications in the field of dermatopathology.

Thomas A. Bolton, MD

Dr. Bolton is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. He is also licensed by the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Bolton's areas of special interest include immunopathology, urologic pathology, and molecular pathology. He also has additional experience in dermatopathology as it relates to hematologic neoplasms, infectious processes, and immunofluorenscence.

After earning a BS in biology and a BA in chemistry from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL, Dr. Bolton earned an MD degree in 1980 from the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, FL, where he also completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology. Following his residency, Dr. Bolton served as clinical associate in General Pathology and Hematology, and later as Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Bolton was also Chief of Microbiology and staff pathologist at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, FL.

Dr. Bolton is active in several professional organizations, including Palm Beach County Medical Society, American Society of Microbiology, American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); and also serves as inspector for the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Dr. Bolton currently serves as the Medical Director of Palm Beach Pathology, and as staff pathologist at several South Florida hospitals, including Good Samaritan Medical Center, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Jupiter Memorial Hospital, Martin Memorial Hospital, and St. Mary's Medical Center, where he is also Chairman of the Infectious Disease Committee and member of the OB/GYN Committee.

Michael E. Hull, MD

Dr. Hull currently serves as Medical Director of UniPath Central Laboratories, and member of its Executive Committee.

After earning a BS degree, magna cum laude, in chemistry from the University of Toledo, Dr. Hull received his MD degree in 2001 from Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN. He completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Saint Louis, MO, where he also served as Co-Chief Resident in anatomic pathology. Following residency, Dr. Hull completed a fellowship in cytopathology and a second fellowship in surgical pathology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Prior to joining UniPath, Dr. Hull served as Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. After receiving a BA degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Lewis received his MD degree in 1986 from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC. He then completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, FL, where he also served as Chief Resident in Pathology.

Dr. Lewis has been involved in several reserach projects and has received a number of awards. Diane D. Heasley, DO

Dr. Heasley is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty board certification in dermatopathology. Dr. Heasley serves as Director of Dermatopathology.

Dr. Heasley received a BS in biology from Eastern Nazarene College, Boston, MA, and then earned her medical degree in 1984 from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, East Lansing, MI. After spending six years as a family practitioner, she entered a residency program in pathology at Grand Rapids Area Medical Education Center of Michigan State University, and completed it at the Albany Medical Center Hospital of the Albany Medical College in Albany, NY.

Dr. Heasley completed a fellowship in dermatopathology at Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany, NY with Martin C. Mihm, MD, who has been the senior dermatopathologist at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital for over 30 years, and is world-renowned in the field of malignant melanoma.

Dr. Heasley has performed research on basal cell carcinomas, and has published research articles, as well as a book chapter on malignant melanoma. Dr. Heasley is member of several professional organizations including the College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and the Colorado Dermatological Society.

David Kaneshiro, MD

Dr. Kaneshiro is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, and is a Gastrointestinal Fellow. His primary areas of interest are gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary pathology, and surgical pathology. Dr. Kaneshiro serves as Director of Gastrointestinal Pathology.

After earning a BS degree in psychology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, Dr. Kaneshiro received his MD degree with honors in 2006 from the University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Medicine. He then completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, and a fellowship in gastrointestinal pathology at Caris Life Sciences (now Miraca Life Sciences), Irving, TX.

Dr. Kaneshiro has been involved in several research projects and is a member of several pathology professional organizations including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), Ohio Society of Pathology, and Cleveland Society of Pathology.

After earning a BA in history from Reed College, Dr. McLaughlin received her MD degree in 2004 from the Oregon Health & Sciences University School of Medicine in Portland, OR, where she also completed her pathology residency and served as Co-Chief Resident. Dr. McLaughlin completed a surgical pathology fellowship at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN; and then returned to Oregon to complete a fellowship in hematopathology at the Oregon Health & Sciences University School of Medicine.

Dr. McLaughlin has been involved in several research projects, publications and presentations in pathology. She has also been the recipient of a number of honors and rewards, including American Society of Hematology Scholar, the Alma B. Sneeden Pathology Award, and Collegiate All-American in Women's Rugby while attending Reed College.

Dr. McLaughlin is a member of several professional societies including the College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), and the American Society of Cytopathologists. She has also served as CAP junior inspector.

Dr. McLaughlin is staff pathologist at several Denver area hospitals including Littleton, Parker and Porter Adventist Hospitals, as well as Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital P/SL), where she is part of the medical team that supports P/SL's bone marrow transplant center.

After earning a BA degree, magna cum laude, in biochemistry & molecular biology from Hamilton College, New York, Dr. Mengshol earned her MD degree in 1999 from the Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover, NH. At medical school, she was elected into the Mosenthal Surgical Society and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha in her senior year. After graduation, Dr. Mengshol was an intern in OBGYN at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and worked at Dartmouth Medical School as a research associate in pre-doctoral education. Dr. Mengshol received her training in anatomic pathology at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, and at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, CO.

Dr. Mengshol completed fellowship training in pediatric pathology at The Children’s Hospital/University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, CO in 2005. After her fellowship, Dr. Mengshol served as instructor in pediatric pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center/The Children’s Hospital, Department of Pathology, Denver, CO for two years.

During her career, Dr. Mengshol has received multiple awards and has authored numerous research articles and publications. She is a member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), and Society of Pediatric Pathologists.

Deborah "Debs" Payne, PhD
Vice President of Molecular Services

Dr. Payne serves as Vice President of Molecular Services. Prior joining in 2009, she served as Director of the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX where she was also Associate Professor of Pathology. She was also Director and a founding member of the Division of Molecular Diagnostics in the Department of Pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr. Payne received her PhD in microbiology and immunology from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX; and performed part of her post-doctoral training at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

Dr. Payne is nationally recognized in molecular diagnostics, is an active speaker, well published and active member of numerous committees and industry organizations. She has held offices as the Chair of the Training and Education Committee for the Association of Molecular Pathology, as Chair of the Molecular Pathology division (2002-2003) for the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC), as the Co-Chair for the NACB Laboratory Practice Guidelines Committee on Pharmacogenetics, as the only U.S. member is on the Committee for Molecular Diagnostics for the International Federation for Clinical Chemistry (IFCC), and as member of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Payne is also a member of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) committee on reference materials, an advisor for the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), and a member of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC). Dr. Payne also served as a voting member for the Molecular and Clinical Genetics Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Dr. Payne has authored or co-authored several book chapters, 55 manuscripts, and is on the editorial board for LabMedicine. She is certified as a clinical laboratory technologist in Molecular Biology MB(ASCP), and holds a Diplomate in Laboratory Management DLM(ASCP). She is also a fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (FACB), and is board certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry in Molecular Diagnostics (DABCC) and by the American Board of Medical Microbiology (DABCC).
